As kids, the last present in the foot of our Santa stockings was always an orange. Admittedly it was always the worst present in the stocking so rather than disappoint the kids I thought I would give them the oranges as part of the advent.
The tradition behind the oranges is really unknown although it if likely that they represent the gold balls that St Nicholas gave or that they were considered a special luxury in tough times of the past.
Whatever the tradition, the girls loved their morning tea.
